How to choose a men's work bag
1. Start with your laptop
If you carry a laptop every day, choose a bag with a padded compartment, like the Malvern (padded laptop and tablet sections) or Windsor. For a slimmer look, the Lawson has an interior laptop sleeve in a soft, minimal briefcase.
2. Think about your commute
Driving to work? A briefcase with top handles works well. On the train or tram, a detachable shoulder strap makes life easier: the Malvern, Lawson, Turner and Trademark all have one. Walking or cycling? The Rocklea backpack keeps your hands free.
3. Organisation matters
Look for a spot for your phone, pens, cards and cables so you're not digging at the bottom of the bag. The Trademark has multiple outside zip pockets and multifunction inside pockets. Frequent flyers will like the Malvern's luggage sleeve, which slips over your suitcase handle.
4. Choose a leather that ages well
Textured water buffalo leather (Malvern, Windsor) and natural-grain leather (Turner) hide scuffs and develop a patina over time. Black is the most formal. Chocolate and cognac look great with navy and grey suits.
Quick answers
What size work bag do I need for a laptop?
Measure your laptop and compare it with the bag's size, allowing a little room. The Lawson (32 × 41 × 10 cm) and Trademark (31 × 40 × 11 cm) take most laptops. The Malvern and Windsor have padded laptop compartments.
Briefcase, satchel or backpack?
A briefcase or business bag looks sharpest in the office. A satchel with a crossbody strap is easier on the commute. A backpack like the Rocklea spreads the weight if you walk or cycle.
What is water buffalo leather?
It's a thick, hard-wearing leather with a rich, pronounced grain. We use it for the Malvern and Windsor because it stands up to daily use and develops character over time.
Do these bags have RFID protection?
The Windsor business satchel is part of our Cobb & Co LT range of RFID-safe bags, with an RFID-safe zip pocket, and the Cremorne is RFID protected too. The LT range also includes the Notting, Kooyong and Richmond satchels. Look for "RFID" in the product name. Read more in our RFID FAQ.
