Every Cobb & Co hardside suitcase has an integrated TSA-approved combination lock. TSA locks let airport security in the USA open and re-lock your case with a master key, so they don't need to cut the lock. Here's how to set your own code, change it, and what to do if you forget it.

Good to know: our TSA locks are factory-set to 000.

How to set your TSA lock combination

  1. Open the lock at 000. Make sure all three dials read 0-0-0 and slide the lock button to open it.
  2. Find the reset button. It's a small button or pin hole on the side or underneath the lock body. On some models it's recessed, so use the tip of a pen.
  3. Press and hold the reset button and, while holding it, turn the dials to your new three-digit code.
  4. Release the reset button. Your new code is now set.
  5. Test it before you pack. Scramble the dials, dial your new code and check the lock opens. Do this with the case open, so you can't lock yourself out.

Write your code down somewhere safe, away from the suitcase, such as a note on your phone.

How to change your code later

Follow the same steps, but start by opening the lock with your current code instead of 000. Then press and hold the reset button, dial the new code and release.

Forgot your combination?

Don't force or cut the lock. Work through every combination from 000 to 999: start at 000, turn the right-hand dial through 0–9, then move the middle dial up one and repeat. It takes about 15 minutes. Once it opens, reset it to a code you'll remember.

Travel tips for TSA locks

  • Flying to or through the USA? Use your TSA lock. Security can open and re-lock it without damage.
  • Don't over-pack expandable cases. Strain on the zip can make the lock button stiff.
  • Lock the zip pullers fully into the lock slots until they click.
  • Before every trip, check the code still works at home.
